Somers soundly avenged last season's loss to Lourdes by shutting out the Warriors 20-0. The victory was especially sweet given Somers returned the favor beating Lourdes at their homecoming game and locking up a winning record (conf and overall ) for the season with 3 games left to play.

From the start, you could feel that the game was going to go Somers way when they thwarted an onsides kick attempt by Lourdes by covering the opening kickoff at the 40yd line. The team then took advantage of the field position and marched down for an opening TD score run in by Nick Debellis.
Lourdes did show the ability to move the ball via the pass but Somers was able stop them when they needed to. It looked like Somers would score quickly again when Dan Pond intercepted deep in Lourdes territory but Somers could not convert as penalties pushed them out of scoring range. Eventually, Matt Newman began to open up the air attack keeping Lourdes off balance and Somers moving forward . He connected on a beautiful 60 yd score to Evan Von Heyn taking Somers to a 13-0 lead into halftime.

In the second half , Lourdes looked like they were going to make a comeback by starting off with a big pass play on the opening drive. It looked like a possible score till the speed of Nick Gonzalez ran down the runner from behind at the Somers 30 . Lourdes kept the pressure on trying to use all 4 downs to move the yard markers but the Somers D refused to let Lourdes inside the 20 yd line. Matt Newman then took over and once again started moving the team with his passing attack which was capped off with another TD run by Nick Debellis for 20-0 lead.

The final score could have been much higher but penalties killed 2 other possible touchdown drives .
