The Modified 7 team playing on the High School Football field for the first time shut out visiting Rye 18 - 0. The Tusker defense finished the game in fine style with the front three off Nick Solazzo, Chris Miraglia and Sean Realbuto refusing to let Rye into the end zone. Rich Scavelli nearly intercepted two passes and helped the secondary shut down the Rye passing game.

The game started with both teams unable to move the ball, but the Somers special teams provided the spark the got the Tuskers going. Matt Deiana took a great long snap from Eric Dolan and punted well over the head of the Garnet punt team. Following solid defense and key tackles by Dean Lauzon, Teddy Dwyer and Andrew Madigan Rye was forced to punt from deep in the own end. Greg Petre took the punt and returned it 38 yards to the Rye 8.

Somers scored twice on runs from Fullback Matt Deiana, one on a trap and one on a pitch. Quarterbacks John Bello and Matt Lancia directed the flawless offense and Tyler Shaw did a great job anchoring the team at center.

Somers closed out the scoring with a long reverse by Kevin Watson. Led by key blocks from Max Hirsch and Billy Jordon, Kevin took the reverse and ran it 41 yards into the endzone.

Somers travels to Rye this Wednesday for a rematch with the Garnets.
